The 10 year license of several TV channels is about to expire, thus the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has urged them to apply for renewal. There are 36 Uplinking TV channels, 13 Downlinking TV
Channels and 9 Teleport whose validity of permission period is expiring
during 2016 including channels such as Suvarna, TV9 Kannada and Mumbai,
Neo Sports, Neo Cricket, Udaya News, Udaya Movies, Gemini News, Gemini
Music, Business Today, Zee Telugu and Kannada.
Notice dated 28th March,
stated that the broadcasting companies, whose initial period of
permission for Uplinking and/or Downlinking of TV channels and setting
up of Teleport are going to expire and are willing to get the permission
to be renewed beyond its initial period are required to apply for the
same 6 months prior to the expiry of the permission period.
MIB has also mentioned that the TV
channels whose initial validity of permission has expired and they have
not applied are required to furnish the details within 15 days from
issue of this notice. Otherwise if will be presumed that the company is
not interested in further renewal of the permission of their TV channel/
Teleport and the permission will be lapsed. No further communication
shall be entertained in this regard.
