CNN-IBN rebrands as CNN News 18

In 2014 Reliance Industries acquired Nework18. Now, post-acquisition, Mukesh Ambani’s TV18 Broadcast is all set to roll out its first major change by rebranding its English news channel CNN-IBN as CNN News18. From 18^th April, IBN will be dropped from the logo and a fresh identity will be revealed.

Alongside the new logo, a fresh line-up will also be the part of this major change and currently channel is telecasting short promos to promote this change. Prior to this, India Today Group has rebranded its English news channels Headlines Today to India Today Television.

Earlier several regional channels under ETV were rebranded as Colors Bangla, Colors Marathi, Colors Kannada, Colors Gujarati etc. CNN IBN was launched in 2005 and it is jointly owned by TV18 Broadcast Limited (Network18) and Turner International India.

BARC Week 13 Regional Mapping: Zee Marathi, Star Jalsha & Big Ganga maintain their lead

Marathi

Zee Marathi continued to lead with 126910 GVTs, followed by Colors Marathi and Zee Talkies with 91661 and 57027 GVTs, respectively. Fakt Marathi climbed to fourth position with 27359 GVTs, while Star Parvah slipped to fifth spot with 25044 GVTs.

Bangla

Star Jalsha maintained its lead position with 195471 GVTs. Zee Bangla stood at second spot with 135235 GVTs, followed by Jalsha Movies with 49868 GVTs. With 34496 GVTs, ABP Ananda made its debut at fourth spot and surpassed Colors Bangla, while Zee Bangla Cinema occupied fifth spot with 30274 GVTs.

Bhojpuri

Big Ganga stood strong at lead position with 27086 GVTs. Bhojpuri Cinema remained at second spot with 15875 GVTs, followed by Dabangg and Dangal TV with 7395 and 5363 GVTs, respectively. Oscar Movies Bhojpuri returned to fifth position with 2537 GVTs.

Oriya

With 104044 GVTs, Sarthak TV topped the chart once again, followed by Tarang TV and Colors Oriya with 51784 and 13962 GVTs, respectively. Odisha TV stood at fourth position with 11292 GVTs and Alankar TV remained at fifth position with 10220 GVTs.

Tamil

Once again Sunt TV led the chart with 935340 GVTs. KTV remained at second spot with 219025 GVTs, followed by Star Vijay with 155479 GVTs. Zee Tamil was at fourth position with 99504 GVTs, while Polimer stood at fifth spot with 74912 GVTs.

Telugu

Zee Telugu maintained its lead with 411328 GVTs, while ETV Telugu remained at second spot with 378141 GVTs. Maa TV remained at third position with 365280 GVTs, followed by sister channels Gemini TV and Gemini Movies with 296840 and 208001 GVTs, respectively.

Kannada

Colors Kannada stood strong at top spot with 254203 GVTs, while Zee Kannada climbed to second position with 165469 GVTs, followed by Udaya Movies with 162407 GVTs. Survana slipped from second spot to fourth position with 154575 GVTs. At fifth spot was Udaya TV with 122339 GVTs.

Malayalam

Asianet continued to lead with 311526 GVTs, while Mazhavil Manorama stood strong at second spot with 103422 GVTs. Flowes TV remained at third spot with 65560 GVTs, followed by Asianet Movies and Surya TV with 55961 and 49895 GVTs, respectively.

BARC Week 13 English Genre: Zee Café claims the throne

Entertainment channels

Zee Cafe claimed the throne with 237 GVTs, while last week’s topper Comedy Central slipped to second spot with 211 GVTs. AXN slipped third position with 136 GVTs and Colors Infinity SD climbed to fourth spot with 78 GVTs. Star World slipped to fifth spot with 54 GVTs.

News channels

Times Now stood strong at top position with 306 GVTs, followed by India Today TV with 207 GVTs. CNN IBN remained at third spot with 169 GVTs, while NDTV 24×7 occupied fourth position with 124 GVTs. NewsX climbed to fifth position with 92 GVTs.

Business news

ET Now maintained the lead with 110 GVTs, while CNBC TV18 stood at second spot with 88 GVTs. At third position was NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime with 48 GVTs, followed by Bloomberg TV with 10 GVTs.

Movies

Movies Now maintained its lead with 3478 GVTs, followed by Star Movies with 3052 GVTs. HBO stood climbed to third position with 1497 GVTs, while Zee Studio slipped to fourth spot with 1480 GVTs. Sony Pix stood at fifth position with 1234 GVTs.

BARC Week 13: DD National climbs to fifth spot; Star Utsav slips to ninth spot

General entertainment

Star Plus continued to lead with 710397 GVTs. Colors remained at second spot with 653402 GVTs, followed by Sister Channels Zee TV and Zee Anmol with 593004 and 567596 GVTs, respectively.

DD National jumped from seventh position to fifth spot with 551556 GVTs. Sony Pal slipped to sixth spot with 538463 GVTs, while Life Ok climbed to seventh spot with 491079 GVTs. Rishtey occupied eighth position with 469554 GVTs and Star Utsav slipped to ninth spot with 457072 GVTs. Sony Sab stood at tenth spot with 367992 GVTs.

Top shows

ICC World T20 India 2016 Live – India vs West Indies – SF 2 on DD National claimed the throne with 26501 GVTs, while India vs Australia stood at second spot with 24134 GVTs.

Colors Naagin remained at third spot with 16314 GVTs, followed by Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya with 12074 GVTs and Star Plus’ Ye Hai Mohabbatein with 10825 GVTs.

News channels

AajTak maintained its lead with 88582 GVTs, followed by India TV with 65939 GVTs. ABP News returned to third spot with 52738 GVTs, while India News slipped to fourth position with 50655 GVTs. News Nation remained at fifth spot with 45942 GVTs.

Movies

Zee Cinema claimed the throne with 376211 GVTs, while Sony Max climbed to second spot with 365030 GVTs. Last week’s topper Star Gold slipped to third spot with 299773 GVTs. Movies OK and &pictures stood at fourth and fifth position with 228861 and 176462 GVTs, respectively.

Sports

Star Sports3 topped the chart once again with 881208 GVTs, followed by sister channel Star Sports1 with 643450 GVTs. Ten Sports stood at third position with 113504 GVTs. Star Sports2 remained at fourth spot with 51470 GVTs and Sony Six stood at fifth spot with 30993 GVTs.

Music

With 96277 GVTs, Mastiii continued to lead, while B4U Music remained at second spot with 90408 GVTs. 9XM stood at third position with 74087 GVTs, followed by Sony Mix and Bindass Play with 69656 and 36034 GVTs, respectively.

Kids

Once again Nick led the chart with 89099 GVTs. Pogo TV stood at second spot with 75827 GVTs, followed by Disney Channel with 69764 GVTs. Cartoon Network remained at fourth spot with 59497 GVTs and Hungama occupied fifth position with 58175 GVTs.

Youth

MTV stood strong at top spot with 11347 GVTs. Bindass climbed to second position with 10365 GVTs, while Zing slipped to third spot with 9726 GVTs. Zoom stood at fourth position with 8460 GVTs and Channel V remained at fifth spot with 4916 GVTs.

Infotainment

History TV18 claimed the throne with 5054 GVTs, while Discovery Channel slipped to second spot with 4616 GVTs. National Geographic Channel stood strong at third spot with 3711 GVTs, followed by Animal Planet and Nat Geo Wild with 2862 and 1908 GVTs, respectively.

Anup Chandrasekharan quits STAR Survana

Business Head of STAR Suvarna,  Anup Chandrasekharan  is moving out of his new role as Content Head. The new person appointed in his place is Ashok Namboodiri, his last stint was with J.K. Helene Curtis Ltd, as Business Head for the FMCG portfolio at Raymond Limited.
